Keeping a light on for what makes us human, as everything becomes machine-run.

The Book · Forthcoming

Before the Concrete Sets

Governing intelligence · a book in five movements

The defining decisions about artificial intelligence are being poured now, while the concrete is still wet. The frameworks we choose in this narrow window will harden into the defaults of the next several decades, and most of the people making those choices will make them without feeling prepared to.

The book draws on governance theory, cognitive science, and thirty years of building and governing real operating systems, from restaurants to technology ventures, to ask three questions: what judgment actually is, what machines can and cannot hold of it, and how institutions should be designed around that boundary. It is written for founders, executives, educators, and policymakers, and it favors working principles over abstractions.

About

Thirty years of building real systems.

Imran M. Tanveer is the founder and chief executive of J.C. Adam & Gold Capital Inc., a Vancouver-based ethical AI venture lab, where he leads a portfolio of AI ventures including a live legal information platform serving people across Canada.

His career spans hospitality and franchising, technology and intellectual property advisory at a Big Four firm, venture founding and funding, early digital publishing, and applied AI research. He teaches marketing, marketing research, and applied AI at two British Columbia post-secondary institutions, and his writing on AI grows directly out of that double life: building the systems by day, and teaching the people who will have to live with them.
